Hyderabad: Excise Staff Told to Ramp Up Drug Surveillance

Hyderabad: Deputy commissioner P. Dasharath held a review meeting at Abkari Bhavan on Wednesday to discuss the growing drug problem and directed excise officials to ramp up surveillance and enforcement across Ranga Reddy district, including Hyderabad.

"There is a need for stringent action against drug use and sales. The seized drugs stored in excise police stations should be destroyed after getting permission. Filing chargesheets in these cases is important to ensure that offenders are punished. Immediate action is required to destroy seized items such as ganja, drugs, and illegal liquor,” he said

During the meeting, he told officials to inspect police stations and submit reports within a week about the seized drugs stored in stations. Records show that 5,600 kg of marijuana and 427 vehicles need to be cleared.

He focused on eradicating drug activity through strict measures and stressed the importance of targeting liquor being brought into Hyderabad from other states and urged officials to seize such contraband and maintain focus against the use of adulterated liquor.
