Hyderabad: Grandson confesses to murder of industrialist, citing humiliation and asset dispute

Teja, who was arrested and remanded the day after the murder, was taken into custody by Panjagutta police.

Hyderabad: Kilaru Keerthi Teja, grandson of Velamati Chandrashekara Janardhana Rao, 86, the head of the Veljan Group, has confessed to murdering his grandfather due to long-standing disputes over asset distribution and alleged personal humiliation.

Teja, who was arrested and remanded the day after the murder, was taken into custody by Panjagutta police. Initially uncooperative, he later detailed the circumstances leading to the killing.
According to police sources, Teja claimed that his grandfather repeatedly demeaned him, referring to him as a "beggar" both at home and in the office. "He never treated me as part of the family," Teja reportedly told investigators. He further alleged that he was deliberately excluded from a fair share of the family's assets and denied a director position within the company, exacerbating tensions.
"The constant humiliation and the feeling of being sidelined led me to decide to kill him," Teja stated, according to police. He admitted to purchasing a knife through Instamart in preparation for the act.
On the day of the murder, a heated argument reportedly erupted between Teja and his grandfather when he requested his share of the assets. "When I asked for my share, he refused, and that's when I stabbed him," Teja confessed.
Following the murder, Teja attempted to conceal evidence by burning his clothes and the knife at an isolated location near Yellammaguda in BS Makta, police confirmed. The investigation into the murder is ongoing.
