Hyderabad: IFoS Official Booked For Abuse

She alleged that Suthan made obscene gestures, including showing her the middle finger

Hyderabad: Police have registered cases against IFoS officer S.P. Suthan for allegedly sexually harassing his neighbour, an official in the Department of Telecom, near her residence at the IAS and IPS quarters in Banjara Hills.

In her complaint, she said she returned home around 6.40 pm on April 13 after duty. “I heard commotion from the opposite house. A few minutes later, Suthan came out, banging the door loudly. He then said, ‘Bhabhi, come let’s smoke a cigarette,’ in a vulgar tone and kept repeating it,” she alleged.

Her staff member told her that since 4 pm, Suthan, working as deputy conservator of forests (IT) in the forest department, had been shouting, banging doors, and repeatedly stepping out onto the balcony. He was imitating in Hindi, calling out to her pet.

“When Suthan referred to me, I took my phone to make his video. I saw him running down the stairs from the balcony. He looked at me and made sexual remarks and repeated them,” the complainant said.

She said that she captured video evidence, which was submitted with her complaint. She further alleged that Suthan made obscene gestures, including showing her the middle finger.

Police said a patrolling team reached her residence after she alerted them and took Suthan to the station. “I feel scared and threatened. I live alone as my husband works in Vijayawada,” She said, adding that this was not the first time she had faced such harassment.

Based on her complaint, police booked cases against Suthan under Section 75 (punishment for sexual harassment), Section 79 (criminalises words, gestures, acts, or exhibitions intended to insult the modesty of a woman or intrude upon her privacy), along with other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“We have issued notice to Suthan to appear before the investigation officer after obtaining a legal opinion. Further probe will follow as per law,” a police official told Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday.
