Hyderabad is Set for a Perfect Long Weekend Escape

Hyderabad: With the long weekend from September 14 to 17 round the corner, Hyderabadis are eagerly planning their getaways.

The break includes the second Saturday on September 14, followed by Milad-Un-Nabi on Monday and Ganesh immersion on Tuesday, making it an ideal time for quick trips out of the city.

Destinations both near and far are being considered, and Telangana Tourism has sweetened the deal by offering a 50 per cent discount on weekday stays at all its hotels until September 30.

Many are eyeing Nagarjunasagar, just 151 km from Hyderabad, with its famous dam and the stunning Ethipothala waterfalls, a popular spot for nature lovers. The surrounding wildlife sanctuary adds to the charm, providing a serene escape from the city’s rustle and bustle.

Meanwhile, travel enthusiasts like Vaibhav Mittal recommend a trip to Gandikota, often called the Grand Canyon of India, located 382 km away in Kadapa district.

"The views from the Erramala Hills are breathtaking. It’s perfect for those who love a dramatic landscape," he said.

For those seeking a quieter retreat, Somasila, 476 km from Hyderabad, is a temple town surrounded by lakes, offering peace and tranquility.

Mittal also mentions Laknavaram lake in Warangal, 210 km from the city, where 13 small islands are connected by a hanging bridge.

"Laknavaram is a beautiful spot, especially for families. The view of the lake from the bridge is stunning. It makes for a good place to unwind," he added.

Just 307 km from Hyderabad, Chirala beach, located in Prakasam district, is another favourite for its quiet, less crowded shores.

"It’s the perfect beach destination for those looking to avoid the crowds," said photographer and travel enthusiast Charumathi. V, who also plans to take advantage of the long weekend with a family trip. "We’re still deciding, but Chirala seems like the perfect escape for some downtime."

For history buffs, Warangal, with its historic landmarks like the Thousand Pillar temple, Ramappa temple and the Pakhal lake wildlife sanctuary, located 212 km from Hyderabad, remains a strong contender. Kurnool, with its Belum caves, offers an adventurous experience just 328 km away, making it another top pick for the weekend.

For the more adventurous, Ananthagiri Hills, AP, which includes the Borra Hills and caves, and the Araku tribal museum, is a bit further at 686 km from Hyderabad. It offers a great trekking experience for those willing to take the journey.

“A bike ride to Ananthagiri Hills is ideal for a quick getaway, but those looking for something more challenging can make the longer trek to Borra caves and beyond," suggested Mittal.
