Hyderabad: A lovelorn man attacked a woman in Gopanpally Thanda under Gachibowli police station limits in the city on Wednesday. The woman, Deepana Thamang, died, and three others were injured in the attack.
According to the police, the accused, Rakesh, who hails from Bidar in Karnataka, had been staying in a private hostel and had developed a friendship with the victim, Deepana, who was from West Bengal and working as a beautician. She was staying with her friends near Gopanpally.
Rakesh had been pursuing Deepana to marry him for the past year, but she rejected his marriage proposal. Enraged by the rejection, he went to her house on Wednesday night and attacked her with a vegetable knife, leading to her death. He also attacked her friends when they confronted him. After the attack, he fled the scene and attempted to kill himself by climbing an electric pole, where he was injured in the attempt.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and shifted him to a hospital for treatment. A case has been registered, and the investigation is underway.
