Hyderabad: Junior Doctors’ Strike Continues Amid Independence Day Protests
HYDERABAD: The junior doctors and senior residents continued their strike on Thursday, boycotting all on-emergency services but toning down their protests as they celebrated Independence Day. The Tricolour was seen at the protest venues.
At Osmania Medical College, junior doctors had made a map of India with bleeding hands around it. They also put question marks after the words "Happy Independence Day".
At Gandhi Medical College, the Flag hoisting was followed by protests by junior doctors who demanded justice for the victim in the Kolkata hospital, and implementation of the Central Protection Act. In the evening, they took out a rally around the college and surrounding areas.
The representatives of resident and junior doctors' associations across the states united under a common platform and established the joint action forum on Thursday. The forum will hereforth coordinate and lead the movement with greater strength and determination.
The forum condemned the vandalism at 1.15 am on August 15 where a huge mob ransacked the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. "We strongly condemn such cowardly criminal act against our fellow colleagues and the citizens who got united and led this movement. We also condemn the very attempts being done to cover up the worst crime. We declare continuation of cease-work from all non-emergency services in all the institutions across the country," the statement from the forum said.
The nation-wide strike will continue until their demands are met, which include, a 72-hour deadline to the CBI for a speedy inquiry and immediate arrest of the culprits; immediate administrative action against the heinous attack over protesters at RG Kar Medical College, Hospital.”
They also sought immediate resignation of the higher authorities of RG Kar Medical College and their interrogation by the CBI for alleged evidence tampering and their prosecution in 72 hours if found guilty. The forum also sought a written commitment from Centre about implementation of Central Protection Act (CPA).
