Hyderabad Police Grab Conman Who Posed as Retired Govt Staffer

Chennaiah with an intention to rob the victim stayed in a hostel in Amberpet: Reports

HYDERABAD: Jubilee Hills police arrested a man posing as retired R&B employee and fleeing with 62 grams of gold and a mobile phone from a victim by diverting her attention. Accused identified as Chennaiah alias Ramulu, 60, of Nizamabad district during questioning revealed that he was addicted to poker and had borrowed huge money to clear debts, and thereby opting for crime, police said.

Chennaiah with an intention to rob the victim stayed in a hostel in Amberpet. He was an expert in making friends with strangers and introduced himself as Rajam Rajaiah Prakash, a retired R&B employee from Gachibowli, police said. The accused used to interact with strangers in public places and after gaining their confidence was making a good escape with their belongings, police added.

Recently he fled with a bag containing 62 grams of gold and a mobile phone from the woman victim at a public place in Jubilee Hills. Police recovered 57.66 grams of gold and the mobile phone and sent the accused to judicial remand after producing him before a court. Police are verifying his criminal background in Nizamabad district.
