Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 to be Completed Soon

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail has carried 63.4 crore passengers in seven years, HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said on Tuesday. On the seventh anniversary of the service, he said the state government was taking rapid steps to build Metro 2.0.

He pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had stated providing funds from the state government for Metro 2.0. He said 1.6 km of the new metro route would be underground.

With regard to concerns over 106 structures in the Old City, he said these would be addressed by using scientific methods. He said the cost of land acquisition in the Old City was about Rs.700 crore. “The Chief Minister has asked us to be liberal in giving compensation,” he said.

N.V.S. Reddy, responding to the demand for more coaches on the trains, said this could be done in the future as the platforms on Metro 1.0 were designed to accommodate longer trains. Going by experience, Metro 2.0 would have more space for parking, bus bays and for feeder services.
