Hyderabad Police Arrest Gang Involved in Rs.43.8 Lakh Cash Bag Theft

Hyderabad: The south zone task force and Gudimalkapur police arrested five persons who snatched a cash bag from a jewellery shop manager last month. Police recovered Rs.43.8 lakh from the accused as well as mobile phones that they had purchased with the rest of the cash and the air pistol with which the gang threatened the victim.

The theft had occurred on the night of August 30, when the gang led by Harpreet Singh Rishi of Kishanbagh, threatened the victim at PVNR Expressway Pillar No. 28, Mehdipatnam, and snatched the bag.

He was aided by Manpreet Singh of Maharashtra, Gurjeet Singh of Sikh Chawni, Mohammed Ghufraan Ilahi of RTC crossroads and Shravan Deshetty, a private company employee from Karwan, according to task force DCP Y.V.S. Sudheendra.

Harpreet Singh and Gurjeet Singh were cousin brothers and Manpreet Singh was their friend. Ilahi and Deshetty were Gurjeet Singh’s classmates.

They collected information about the transport of cash from the jewellery store from Shravan, their friend and former employee of a jewellery store. The store manager would keep the cash at his home overnight and deposit it in the bank the next day.

Police said Harpreet Singh stole the air pistol from his cousin’s residence in Nanded and along with the other gang members lay in wait for the manager. Ilahi was to track the victim.

On August 30 night, the manager along with a colleague reached Pillar 28 of the expressway and stopped at a paan kiosk. Harpreet and Manpreet approached the manager who was standing with the cash bag, threatened him with the air pistol and made off with the cash, police said.

Upon their arrest, the gang was handed over to the Gudimalkapur police for further investigation and later produced before a court for judicial remand.
