Mangalhat Police Launch Special Drive Against Chinese Manja

Hyderabad: Ahead of the Sankranti festival, which is synonymous with kite flying, Mangalhat police have been conducting a special drive against the sale of the banned Chinese manja since November 10.

M. Mahesh, SHO Mangalhat police station, said that they had come across the sale of Chinese manja, which is made from non-biodegradable/synthetic material, in several shops. They registered 18 cases against 22 sellers and seized 1094 bobbins from their possession.

“We have warned shopkeepers that those found selling the deadly manja would be subject to severe punishment,” Mahesh said.

“To prevent sale of the banned Chinese manja, we conducted several meetings in Goshamahal and its surrounding areas with sellers and customers, especially about the dos and don’ts of flying kites,” he said.

Mahesh added, “Our teams will continue to raid and conduct awareness programs about the sale and use of Chinese manja that can prove fatal to humans, animals and birds.”
