Hyderabad police nabs 148 people for selling Chinese manja
Hyderabad: The sleuths of Hyderabad task force police on Monday arrested as many as 148 people after registering 107 cases for indulging in illegal business of prohibited Chinese manja. As many as 7,334 Chinese manja bobbins, all worth Rs.90 lakh were seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
Keeping in view the past experiences and incidents, the City Police Commissioner CV Anand alerted all the task force teams and law and order personnel well in advance about the harm to be caused by the manja.
Accordingly, seven teams headed by Task Force DCP YVS Sudeendra and Additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao carried out raids and booked 107 cases and arrested 148 people.
As many as 32 cases were registered in the south west zone, which is highest in the city followed by the east zone. As a result of the raids, the availability of Chinese Manja is significantly reduced and till now no harmful incidents threatening human and animal life are reported earlier.
The local dealers, who sell thread manja are overjoyed with the increase in sale of thread manja due to non availability of Chinese manja thereby gaining sufficient profits in their seasonal and traditional business. Sudeendra advised the general public not to use Chinese manja and should follow precautionary measures while flying kites during this festival season.
