Alleged encroachments haunt BRS MLA once again

Hyderabad: The name of education institutions owned by BRS Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, son-in-law of former minister and BRS Medchal MLA Chamakura Malla Reddy has surfaced again, and this time also for the alleged encroachment.

A demolition notice was served by the revenue department to Marri Laxma Reddy Institute of Technology, and the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering College, Dundigal.

The notice, which was issued in accordance with the provisions of the Telangana (TA) Irrigation Act, 1357 Fasli, and Section 23 of the Telangana Water, Land and Trees Act, 2002, requires the illegal buildings to be removed within seven days of receiving it or else action will be initiated by the authorities.

In an inspection, it was found that the two institutes have encroached about 8.4 acres which includes buildings in one acre, permanent sheds in two acres), vehicle parking in three acres and MLR college roads in 2.24 acres within Chinna Damera Cheruvu at Dundigal village, Gandimaisamma.

The encroachments were found when the Telangana High Court, responding to a petition, issued a directive to conduct a joint inspection on the Chinna Damera Cheruvu.

The appeal sought to stop further encroachment and safeguard the water bodies by highlighting illegal buildings throughout 13 tank bed regions in Hyderabad and the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district.

The court in its order had directed the government to submit a report on the status of tank beds of the lakes in question and the encroachments made thereon and to mark the full tank level (FTL) of the tanks and fix the boundaries and contours of the lake by stones.

In March, officials of the revenue department demolished an illegal road leading to the Malla Reddy Engineering College located in Gundlapochampally Municipality. In the same month, a demolition drive on around eight acres was taken up in the same Institute of Aeronautical Engineering College for encroachment in the Chinna Damera Cheruvu.
