Hyderabad SBI Staff Averts Rs 13 Lakh Cyber Fraud

Hyderabad: Alert staff of the State bank of India, AC Guards, averted a Rs 13 lakh cyberfraud against one of their customers, after noticing that he was continuously talking on a WhatsApp call and seemed to been under stress.

It later turned out that the customer was a victim of the fraud of ‘digital arrest’ for four days.

The customer visited the branch on Thursday to transfer funds to an account in another bank. He appeared stressed and was speaking to someone over a WhatsApp call.

The bank staff sensed that he was under a cyber attack and brought it to the notice of the branch manager. The staff then stepped him and tried to help him out. Even after persistent requests from bank staff to desist, the customer was unwilling to listen and insisted on transferring the funds.

The bank staff tactfully delayed the transfer of funds on Thursday and Friday. Branch manager Kamalakar convinced the customer that he was a victim of a cybercrime and advised him to not fall for the fraudster's threat.

The branch manager informed the cybercrime police about the incident and finally the fund transfer from the customer account was avoided. The victim eventually realised and thanked SBI staff for the help.
