N-encroachment led to flood: HYDRAA

The actor, who owns N-Convention, called the demolition ‘unlawful’ in a post on his X handle

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) strongly reacted to the statement made by actor Nagarjuna Akkineni and said that the houses of lower and middle income family groups were being submerged in the waters of the Tammidikunta Cheruvu due to the encroachment of N-Convention Centre.

The actor, who owns N-Convention, called the demolition ‘unlawful’ in a post on his X handle. “Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N-Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and court cases,” read a part of his tweet.

With the actor mentioning that it was patta land, and not even an inch of the tank had been encroached, a HYDRAA official questioned why the structure was raised in the first place.

“Even if it is patta land falling in the full tank level (FTL) or buffer zone of a lake, the property owner should only use it for agriculture purposes or greenery development. He is using it for commercial purposes. Doesn’t he even know these basics.” said a senior official monitoring the demolition activity.

A.V. Ranganath, HYDRAA commissioner, in a press release stated that the owner of N-Convention had tried to regularise the unauthorised structures under Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) but the application was rejected.

“Due to the unchecked encroachments in and around Tammidikunta Cheruvu and the connecting nalas the area around Madhapur, Hitec City area, is facing serious waterlogging issues,” Ranganath said. According to HYDRAA, many houses of lower and middle income groups were getting submerged because of the constructions, resulting in severe loss of property to the residents.

“The lower reaches of the Tammidikunta Cheruvu are being inundated during heavy rain regularly as its capacity to hold water shrank by more than 50 to 60% per cent, said Ranganath. “N-Convention is built in the FTL / buffer zone and has no building permission whatsoever.”

According to HYDRAA, in 2014 the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) issued the preliminary notification marking the FTL and buffer zone of Tammidikunta Cheruvu and in 2016 the final notification was issued.

The HYDRAA stated that, after issuing the preliminary notification in 2014, when the owner / members of N-Convention approached the High Court, it directed that due process of law should be followed in the respect of determination of the FTL.

Accordingly, a survey of the FTL was conducted in the presence of the petitioner (N- Convention) and the report was communicated to them, Ranganath said.

The HYDRAA commissioner said that the N-Convention management had approached the Miyapur Additional District Judge Court on the survey report in 2017 and the case was pending with no stay orders from any court.
