Hyderabad: 6 held for smuggling liquor bottles from MP

Hyderabad: Six persons were arrested by the special task force (STF) on the charges of smuggling non-duty paid liquor (NDPL) bottles from Madhya Pradesh into Hyderabad on Monday. A special team of the STF arrested the six individuals during the raids at different places in the twin city and seized 154 bottles of liquor worth rupees two and a half lakh. A car and six mobile phones were also recovered from the accused.

Acting on a tip-off, raids were conducted at various check-posts, said excise superintendent Anji Reddy. “A person named Tarun Verma who was travelling in a car, had been found transporting 40 NDPL bottles. He was bringing the liquor bottles from Madhya Pradesh for distribution in the districts. His car was intercepted for checking at Chengicherla. The accused was involved in the shady business for the past few years,” said the excise superintendent.
Based on Tarun’s confession another accused K. Surender Reddy was arrested in Rajendranagar. In the early hours of Monday, 28 liquor bottles were seized from a house in Shaikpet. Similarly 16 liquor bottles were seized from another person K. Nagarjuna’s house at SR Nagar.
The arrested accused have been identified as Tarun Verma, Ravinder Goud, K. Surender Reddy, Kranti, Nagaraju and Venkie. Director of the excise enforcement, V. B. Kamalasan Reddy lauded the efforts of the STF teams.
