Hyderabad: Six arrested for smuggling non-duty paid liquor
Hyderabad: A special task force (STF) of the Telangana Police on Monday arrested six persons for allegedly smuggling Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL) into the state from Madhya Pradesh.
The STF seized 154 liquor bottles worth Rs 2.5 lakhs from the smugglers. In addition, two bikes, a car and six mobile phones were also confiscated.
The police identified the arrested as Tarun Verma, Ravinder Goud, K Surender Reddy, Kranti, Nagaraju and Venkie.
"Based on credible information, we conducted inspections at various check posts," said excise superintendent Anji Reddy.
"A smuggler named Tarun Verma was arrested at Chengicherla, who was smuggling a large amount of non-duty paid liquor," Anji Reddy added. It was revealed that he was smuggling NDPL for the past few years.
"40 bottles of alcohol were seized from his car."
"Acting on the information revealed by Tarun Verma during his interrogation, liquor was seized from another individual named K Surender Reddy," the excise superintendent said.
"Additionally, 44 (28, 16) bottles of NDPL were seized from residences of two different individuals, one at Shaikpet and SR Nagar, respectively," Reddy added.
Meanwhile, Director for Excise Enforcement V B Kamalasan Reddy appreciated the efforts of the STF teams.
