Hyderabad: Students protest after mobile found with 300 washroom videos
Hyderabad: Female students on Wednesday staged a protest at CMR Engineering College in Medchal alleging that they were secretly and illicitly filmed in their hostel washrooms.
The alleged recordings came to light after a student reportedly found a mobile phone in one of the washrooms at the girls’ hostel. When she checked the mobile, she reportedly found 300 videos of women in the washroom on the phone. All these videos were recorded over the course of the past three months.
An unofficial Instagram page of the college accused the college management of trying to suppress the incident and jamming the telecom signals at the girls’ hostel.
“Guys there's a thing here in CMR girls hostel 2 (campus hostel) they found a phone in the washroom which was recording things. 300 videos were found, starting from 3 months ago. None is raising the voice against it and the management and wardens are suppressing it. They are jamming the signal and cutting off all communication in the girls hostel, so that the news won't go out… Please let other people know about it and let's not suppress the news and raise the voice for justice. Please share it with your friends, all the groups and authorities!!,” the Instagram post read.
The news spurred an instant reaction from both female and male students, who staged a protest. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) too joined the protest.
According to Medchal ACP B. Srinivas Reddy, no FIR was registered yet as no written complaint was submitted to the police. However, as part of the investigation, the Medchal police have taken four suspects into custody for questioning. The suspects reportedly work at the mess.
