Hyderabad: Swift action of woman constable saved Rs 4.65 lakh

Hyderabad: The swift action of woman head constable K. Deena and her coordination with three banks within one hour has saved Rs 4,65,859 a cyberfraud victim. Her presence of mind in alerting three banks and having the fraudulent amounts frozen was appreciated by the Hyderabad police.

A 45-year-old victim was lured by a fraudster who posed as the managing director of a company, Solar Planet Solutions, on Saturday. He offered to deliver a solar power unit to the victim's house, got Rs 5,17,500 transferred to his firm account and turned off his mobile.
Talking to Deccan Chronicle, K. Deena, a woman head constable at the SR Nagar police, narrated the events. “The complainant entered SR Nagar police station at 12 pm in a panic. He was in a deep shock and sweating. I first offered him a glass of water asking him to be seated. While recording the victim’s statement, I simultaneously informed the NCRB portal and collected the acknowledgment. Then, from her device, I saw the UPI number that cited the fraudster’s current account in Canara Bank in the name of Solar Panels. I issued a notice to Canara Bank informing them about fraudulent activity and asked them to hold the amount of Rs 5 lakh that got transferred. The nodal agency of the bank could freeze Rs 4,65,858,” Deena said.
“Then I sent another notice to the SBI where the fraudster had another current account in the name of “Solar panels” informing that that Rs 80,000 fraudulent amount has been credited in their bank. They were able to freeze Rs 62,000. By then, the fraudster understood that they were being watched and withdrew Rs 18,000 through an ATM in Maharashtra,” she added.
“I will always be grateful to Deena. As I could not afford to pay high electricity bills, I have decided to get a solar energy unit installed at my place. I had only Rs 17,500 and borrowed another Rs 5 lakh from my friend trusting the fraudsters. If the police had not blocked the fraudster’s account, I would not have gotten back my money. I almost lost hope till the women police officer swiftly helped to get my money back,” the victim said. “I appreciate her dedication and detection that saved a poor man's money, that too within an hour,” a senior police officer from the west zone said.
