Hyderabad: The General Public Decodes the Verdict

Hyderabad: The 2024 festival of democracy concluded on Tuesday with the results of all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana being declared. People from different walks of life had their own individual take on the eventual outcome.

Deccan Chronicle interacted with a cross section of people in the city.

Mohammed Adbul Rayees from Kareemnagar said “The Congress had many chances to get the double-digit mark. However, leaders at the grassroots level could not reach out to the voter in an appropriate manner. Moreover, within a few months since coming to power, they could not announce many welfare schemes as the election code was enforced for the LS polls.”

Hemanth Gohil said, “As the BJP’s much-hyped 400 plus seats could not be realised, it is now at someone else’s mercy to form a government. I believe that in north India, SCs, STs and BCs were averse to the BJP government.”

Md. Fazal, a car mechanic, said, “the cost of living has gone up. The common man wants ‘roti, kapda aur makan’, which the governments are failing to deliver.”

Ex-serviceman P. Rajendran, said, “elections are getting more and more confusing. The candidates were shuffled at the last minute. I feel that had Congress named its candidates much earlier, its showing would have been more than the eight seats it has pocketed.”

IT employee Mahendra Paruchuri, a native of Hanuman junction in Andhra Pradesh, said “The only reason most of the people who came out and voted against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was because there has been no progress in the state. It was only announcement of freebies. In fact, even the beneficiaries were suffocated by the government.”

Syeda Kaneez Fatima, a resident of Charminar, “People from Hyderabad constituency opt for AIMIM because the party leaders are available to the general public. Even petty issues are resolved by them.”Omar Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti
