Hyderabad: Traffic Cop Saves Youth from Suicide Attempt
Hyderabad: A traffic inspector’s presence of mind and swift action saved the life of a 25-year-old man, who was about to end his life by jumping into tank bund here on Wednesday.
“I was posted on routine duty near the traffic signal, when a commuter informed me that a youngster had crossed the railing and was proceeding towards the bund’s bed. I alerted commuters and a police constable and together we rushed to the scene and caught hold of his T-shirt, while directing my subordinate to get down to the place from where he was about to jump,” M. Veerasham, traffic inspector of Chikkadpally told Deccan Chronicle.
The incident occurred around 12.15 pm. The youth was speaking to his mother on his mobile and crying ‘amma nenu sachi pothanu, ee badhalu thatkoleka’ (Amma, unable to bear these problems, I am ending my life).
The inspector grabbed his mobile phone and spoke to his family members. Later, he informed the law and order police.
The youngster has been identified as M. Venu (25) a technician from Kavadiguda. He said that he was tormented by domestic and financial issues because of which he wanted to end his life. The police counselled Venu in the presence of his family members, who, by then, had rushed to the spot.
