Hyderabad: A 28-year-old woman died allegedly by suicide due to her husband’s constant torture. The incident occurred in the Miyapur police station area. While the death was reported on Thursday, a case was registered on Friday.
According to Miyapur police, the deceased has been identified as Venkata Nagalaxmi, working at a private company in Gachibowli. She was married to one Manikanta Manoj, 31, a civil contractor. At the time of their marriage, Nagalaxmi’s parents had transferred 1.5 acres of land in her name.
A few months after the marriage, Manoj allegedly started torturing her for her land. He would beat her up every day and abuse her.
When Nagalaxmi took this matter to her mother-in-law, she also allegedly abused the victim. Manoj also tried to defame her.
Manoj would also allegedly beat up Nagalaxmi’s daughter, who was from her previous marriage and has been living with them. Despite the family members attempting to counsel him, nothing helped, police said quoting from the complaint.
On December 11, after a scuffle with her husband, Nagalaxmi reportedly attempted suicide. The house owner, who learnt about this, informed her father about it and shifted her to a hospital for treatment. On December 12, Nagalaxmi died while undergoing treatment. The family lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered. Further investigation is underway.
