Hyderabadis enjoy long drive to Nagarjuna Sagar

Hyderabad: After Srisailam dam, hundreds of families from Hyderabad headed to the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) in Nalgonda district on Sunday to enjoy the excellent view of Krishna water gushing out of the crest gates on Sunday.

Of the one lakh and more people who visited NSP on Sunday, 80 per cent of them were from Hyderabad, Nagarjuna Sagar Circle Inspector K Beesanna told Deccan Chronicle.

Packing their lunch boxes, the families proceeded to NSP in their cars to enjoy the scenery of the water releasing from the crest gates and capture images in their high-end smartphones after taking selfies. After visiting the NSP site, most families had their lunch under trees on the highway connecting the NSP while other families preferred to have food at nearby restaurants.

“It was like ‘vanabhojanalu’. We not only enjoyed the long drive on Sunday morning and the environs near the NSP but also delicious food with the family members,” a degree student said, seeking anonymity.

The crowd was normal till 9 am on Sunday. As the day progressed, there was a significant surge in the crowd making it a difficult task for the police to manage them. Such was the rise in crowd that a long serpentine queue of cars was seen three kilometers away from the NSP.

As the vehicles continued to reach the NSP till afternoon, the senior police officials deployed additional police personnel to regulate the crowd and to prevent any untoward incident. With NSP being over 180 kms from Hyderabad, several families preferred to visit it to enjoy a long drive with the family members and see the water releasing from the gates.

Beesanna said necessary measures were taken to prevent any inconvenience to the visitors. Senior police officials also monitored the flow of crowd with the field-level officers for better crowd management and regularly gave instructions to them using their communication equipment.
