HYDRAA-affected flat owners demand compensation from builders

Hyderabad: Owners of flats that are under the radar of HYDRAA for being located on lake land are planning to file court cases against their builders to get compensation before their homes are pulled down. Flat owners and apartment associations are setting up meetings to force the builders to pay up.

"We feel cheated," says a president of an apartment association in Nagaram area who wished to be anonymous.
"Most of us bought these flats without knowledge of their legal status. The builders never told us we were purchasing homes on encroached land. Now, we're facing the prospect of losing everything," he said.

“Although HYDRAA is not demolishing residential complexes now, they will do so in the future. We purchased the flats for upwards of Rs 75 lakh, with many of us pouring our hard-earned savings. We want the builder to be held accountable, and get remuneration from them before HYDRAA takes action”, the president added.

Priya Reddy, a Jeedimetla-based flat-owner and secretary of her apartment’s association, said, "We spent our life savings on this flat. We had no idea it was on disputed land. The builders must pay for this mess, not us. We will not let the builders get away from the situation while we pay the price by getting our homes destroyed."
