HYDRAA Commissioner Assures No Demolition of Occupied Houses in Lake Zones

Hyderabad: Allaying concerns, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Sunday said that occupied houses would not be demolished even if they were located in the full tank level (FTL) or buffer zone of lakes.

"If any such purchasers have any doubt regarding FTL/ buffer zones, they can check HMDA lakes section on the website or can approach us for clearing such doubts," he added.

He clarified that only the under-construction buildings, which are located in the FTL and buffer zones, will be pulled down.

"We would like to assure all the people of Hyderabad that no house which is occupied will be demolished. However, we request people not to purchase any house, flat or land which falls in the FTL or buffer zone of any lake," said Ranganath.

He said the buildings which were pulled down at Kathwa Cheruvu in Mallampet were in the under-construction stage and those razed at the Sunnam Cheruvu were commercial establishments. The structures that were demolished at Ameenpur were compound walls.

The government agency assured people that it will not make them homeless.
