HYDRAA Is Not Just About Razing Illegal Structures, They Respond to Every SOS and Calamity

Hyderabad:The HYDRAA, in the news for high-profile demolition of structures on lake land, has a human face.

Earlier this week, the Disaster Response Force (DRF), in collaboration with the fire department –both falling under HYDRAA – rescued an eagle trapped in wires in King Koti. Responding to an alert early Thursday morning, a five-member DRF team, including manager Ravi Yadav, Praveen Kumar, Devender, Rajkumar, and Parmesh, freed the bird. Around five fire department workers were a part of the rescue operation.

A HYDRAA official explained that the current force comprises 30 teams under the GHMC. However, plans are underway to increase the number of teams and expand their jurisdiction to include the areas up to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

This week, HYDRAA was also responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe Ganesh immersion process. According to officials, 14 DRF teams were deployed across locations. A workforce of 200 staff members and swimmers, equipped with lifebuoys and life jackets provided by HYDRAA, ensured the safety of workers and devotees at the immersion points.

Elsewhere, GHMC and DRF teams rescued a transgender, who had attempted to die by suicide at Lingam lake in Gajularamaram. Their quick response, which included performing CPR, followed by immediate hospitalisation, ensured the victim’s survival.

In July, HYDRAA responded to 13 rescue calls involving both people and animals, with seven more in August. The agency also attended dozens of fire-related complaints and assisted in recovering bodies in tragic circumstances.

One such case involved recovery of a body from Ibrahimpatnam lake, where they worked closely with the police. Another involved retrieving the body of a man who had fallen into a quarry in Kompally. HYDRAA personnel recovered a body from Foxsagar and handed it over to police. During the monsoon season, HYDRAA’s teams are a frequent sight, relocating residents in inundated areas and assisting stranded people whose vehicles caught in waterlogged streets.
