HYDRAA to Remove Encroachments on Road

Illegal Encroachments Block Roads, Prompting HYDRAA to Act

Hyderabad: Apartments, houses, and businesses across the city constructing staircases, ramps, and walkways that encroach upon roads and footpaths is not an uncommon sight. These unauthorised structures not only lead to traffic congestion and long lines of vehicles but also make the city’s streets difficult to walk on.

HYDRAA, which has been taking action against the encroachers of public property, said if the structures encroaching roads and footpaths are not removed, they will take action and demolish the structures.

Locals, residents and commuters said the problem is city-wide. In Himayath Nagar, an apartment brought its vehicle ramp encroaching the street road, and has been causing a lot of trouble for commuters.

A resident took to X to share their plight on road encroachments at multiple locations in Defence Colony in Medchal-Malkajgiri. They said road and footpath encroachments are causing a lot of trouble for commuters and pedestrians.

In Nizampet, HYDRAA recently demolished illegal structures, including apartment ramps and iron-frame staircases, built on roads in Balaji Hills and Indiramma Colony. These encroachments were blocking roads, causing congestion of school buses and emergency vehicles.

Satish Kumar, general secretary of an apartment association at Nagole, said "Strict action has to be taken on such encroachments. Our apartment had a rampway and plant line outside the apartment limits, encroaching the road. We fought with our builder and got it demolished."

A HYDRAA official, speaking with Deccan Chronicle, said "Our primary goal is to make sure public roads and footpaths are traffic-free. Not only demolishing the illegal structures, strict action will be taken against people who encroach on roadways and public property."
