HYDRAA tries to rediscover Eedula Kunta
Hyderabad: In an interesting development, HYDRAA is trying to rediscover a lake that had disappeared due to alleged encroachments. On Thursday, HYDRAA, along with officials from Survey of India, revenue and irrigation departments, conducted ground-level surveys at Madhapur’s Eedula Kunta to uncover the lake’s traces.
Authorities conducted a detailed survey to determine the lake’s boundaries, FTL and buffer zones. HYDRAA officials said they conducted the survey after receiving complaints from local residents who claimed the lake near the Khanamet-Kukatpally border had disappeared due to illegal encroachments.
Officials have already identified the lake's remnants using high-resolution maps provided by the National Remote Sensing Centre. In November, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the site and reviewed the extent of encroachments. HYDRAA stated that a real estate company claims ownership of the land where the lake once existed, and officials called both the company representatives and the complainants to their office for an inquiry.
During the investigation, complainants presented evidence showing that a stormwater channel connecting Tumma Kunta and Eidula Kunta was blocked during the construction of a bridge near Hitec City. They alleged that the lake bed was filled with soil and illegally occupied due to this obstruction. HYDRAA officials said they would research and investigate further, before taking action.
