ED may grill Arvind over E race today

Hyderabad: Senior IAS officer and Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar is likely to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday, following a notice issued to him by the agency in connection with the formula E racing irregularities case,

A few days ago, the ED officials, who registered cases under relevant sections, served notices to BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, asking him to appear before it on January 7, Arvind Kumar was summoned on January 2 and former HMDA employee B.L.N Reddy will appear on January 3.

ED officials obtained documents from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and HMDA in connection with the Formula E racing activities, agreements, payments, purchases, approvals from government and others. The ED officials are likely to record Arvind Kumar's statements.

Based on the data, a team of officials from ED are likely to question Arvind Kumar at their office in Basheerbagh.

Arvind Kumar is the second IAS officer facing ED inquiries. Earlier, the ED questioned D. Amoy Kumar in connection with the Bhoodan land allotments and its irregularities.

Earlier, the ACB registered cases against Rama Rao, Arvind Kumar and B.L.N. Reddy for misusing funds on the name of Formula E racing in Hyderabad without getting proper approvals from government and transferred `54 crore to the Formula E Operations Limited.

When the Formula E racing activity was held in Hyderabad, Arvind Kumar was Special secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) while Rama Rao was minister of MA&UD. B.L.N. Reddy was chief finance officer of HMDA and transferred huge amounts from a bank at Himayatnagar.
