IIT Hyd Half Marathon 2024 evokes massive response
Hyderabad: The IIT Hyderabad Half Marathon 2024, under the aegis of IIT Hyderabad Runners Club, saw the participation of over 1,500 persons, who vied for honours in three categories — half marathon (21.1 km), 10K run and 5K fun run. A highlight was the section run in the picturesque campus.
Meant to highlight fitness, wellness, and community spirit, the event, featuring participants from across the country, was flagged off by Poorna Malavath, the youngest girl to conquer Mount Everest.
She said "This event reflects the spirit of endurance and resilience, which are values that resonate deeply with the mountaineer in me."
Sangareddy superintendent of police Ch. Rupesh spoke about the importance of fitness and discipline and applauded IIT Hyderabad for creating a platform for the purpose.
Prof. B.S. Murty, director of IITH, said “This event is not just a celebration of fitness and endurance but also a testament to the vibrant and energetic spirit of the IIT Hyderabad community and IIT Hyderabad Runners Club.”
Prathiba, who topped the women's category of the half marathon, said, “The routes and the campus are truly beautiful.”
Another runner Raghu Peethambaram said “I have always aspired to be an IITian, and running on this campus was a unique experience. The support throughout the run was overwhelming.”
The event was overseen by IIT Hyderabad Runners Club leaders Prof. Prem Pal (president and race director), Dr Upender Sunkari (vice-president) and Dr Himanshu Joshi (general secretary).
