IIT Roorkee to study Nagarjunasagar dam before repairing: Uttam
Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said necessary measures would be taken up to repair craters developed on spillway gates of Nagarjunasagar dam. He instructed the officials of the Irrigation department to conduct a detailed study with the help of IIT Roorkee before taking up repairs.
The Minister also asked officials to expedite the works related to phase one Nellikallu Lift Irrigation Scheme (NLIS) and asked them to draw plans to supply water to farmers by the next Kharif season. He reviewed the progress of works related to NLIS in Nalgonda apart from high and low level and link canals, besides repairs to Nagarjunasagar dam at Jala Soudha in Erramanzil here.
If the construction of NLIS was completed, then the department could supply water to as many as 24,624 acres in the district. The government has taken up construction of NLIS at a cost of over Rs.664.80 crore. If phase one of the project was completed by Kharif season, then water could be supplied to 7,600 acres, he said.
