Illegal borewell caused chaos in New Nallakunta

Illegal borewell caused chaos, officials mum

Hyderabad:An illegally dug borewell on a public road near Divyanjali School in Central Excise Colony, New Nallakunta, triggered chaos on Monday after it damaged a main water pipeline, causing severe water wastage and disrupting supply. Residents said that as the drilling was underway, thousands of gallons of water gushed out, flooding nearby homes and leaving the entire colony without drinking water.

According to sources, a team of officials, including the mandal revenue officer (MRO), inspected the site and the borewell drilling rigs. However, instead of seizing the equipment for unauthorised drilling on public property, they allowed the vehicles to leave. Frustrated residents approached the Amberpet police station to file a complaint against those responsible, but officers reportedly declined, stating it was not under their jurisdiction.

“Despite the chaos, neither the MRO nor the police have taken steps to seal or close the borewell,” a resident said. “This is a clear case of negligence. Not only was an illegal borewell dug, but it also damaged a public water pipeline, leaving us without water. The authorities visited the site, saw everything, and still did nothing,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of the colony.

Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) stated that repair work was underway. “Our teams are on the site, working to restore the damaged pipeline, and we expect the repairs to be completed by the end of the day,” an official said.
