HYDRAA Demolishes Unauthorised Structures in Nallacheruvu, Kukatpally

Hyderabad: After a two-week downtime, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Sunday shifted into high gear and demolished several structures and buildings in Kukatpally and Ameenpur areas, reclaiming acres of government land.

HYDRAA officials demolished commercial establishments which were within the full tank level (FTL) and buffer zone of Nalla Cheruvu, also known as Kukatpally lake. Along with that, the agency also demolished structures and buildings which were constructed on encroached government land.

At Nalla Cheruvu, HYDRAA officials demolished 16 sheds and compound walls which were erected on the FTL and buffer zones of the lakes. Some of the establishments have built large sheds along the boundary of the lake for extensive commercial activities, such as catering businesses, which include substantial kitchens for cooking orders.

They demolished sheds belonging to several establishments involved in catering, event management, plywood, digital printing, dairy and water treatment. The demolitions began at 6 am, and two hammer excavators, and other power tools were used to raze all structures by 12 noon.

Several business owners expressed their sorrow over the sudden demolition. “We were never given any notice, nor were we given time to remove our equipment and goods. I personally lost more than Rs.1 crore worth of equipment in the demolition,” claimed G. Ravi, owner of GR Symbols and Digitals.

At Nalla Cheruvu, officials demolished 16 sheds and compound walls, and reclaimed four acres of lake land from encroachment.

As the structures were being demolished at Nalla Cheruvu, HYDRAA officials also razed several structures and buildings in Ameenpur mandal. Officials identified several structures which were raised on encroached government land, and subsequently demolished all the structures on the properties.

Officials identified 25 reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures at Ameenpur’s Patelguda village. The ground plus one-floor independent houses, each valued for Rs.1.5 crore-Rs.1.8 crore, according to locals, were constructed on government land which was encroached by land grabbers.

Sources said that a builder, Venkat Ram Reddy, undertook the construction of multiple buildings which were demolished.

HYDRAA also undertook the demolition of three RCC structures at Ameenpur’s Kistareddypet under Survey Number 164. The buildings were also constructed on government land which was encroached. All the buildings were ground plus five-floored structures, and one building was being constructed for a children’s hospital. The demolitions went on until 8.30 pm.

HYDRAA authorities stated that they reclaimed three acres of government land from Patelguda village, and one acre of government land from Kistareddypet encroachments.
