Incois Wins 2023-24 SAR Award for Innovative Search & Rescue Tools

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Inocis) has been awarded the 'SAR award for ashore unit' for 2023-24, in recognition of its contribution to maritime and aeronautical search and rescue (SAR) operations through innovative technological solutions.

Incois has developed advanced tools like the Search & Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT) and its integrated version, SARAT-I, which have proven crucial by forecasting search areas during emergencies at sea and in the air. The launch of SARAT-2 in August introduced improved accuracy and had advanced features.

Incois director and system architect Dr Balakrishnan Nair said, “The development of SARAT for the maritime sector and SARAT-I for the aviation sector showcases how ocean science and technology can be harnessed for disaster risk reduction and nation-building.”

Dr. Nair received the award from defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at the 11th National Maritime Search and Rescue Board Meeting in Kochi on November 28.
