Increase revenues without burdening people: Bhatti to officials
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister holding finance portfolio, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu asked officials of revenue-earning departments to adopt a new approach to increase income for the state treasury without imposing additional taxes on the public. During a review meeting held on Friday at Secretariat, Bhatti outlined an action plan focused on innovative ideas to enhance revenue streams across various departments.
Bhatti stressed the importance of devising strategies that align with government needs while ensuring minimal impact on people. The meeting, which included top officials such as special chief secretary, finance, K. Ramakrishna Rao, MA&UD principal secretary Dana Kishore, and finance principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, highlighted several key areas for action.
The mining department was tasked with increasing the availability of sand by establishing additional sub-yards and market yards in Assembly constituencies, particularly around major towns. This initiative seeks to streamline access to this essential resource and potentially enhance revenue through regulated sales.
Officials were directed to accelerate the Land Regularisation Process (LRS) process, including assessing applications statewide, evaluating current income, and forecasting potential revenue for the fiscal year. The Deputy CM also emphasised avoiding past mistakes related to land pooling under the HMDA limits and addressing ongoing court disputes.
Recognising the critical role of GST as a major revenue source, Bhatti instructed the preparation of a comprehensive action plan to minimise leakages and boost GST income. This effort aims to plug revenue gaps and ensure better compliance. It was decided to hold regular monthly reviews, chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, to monitor progress and implement new ideas.
