Hyderabad: The southern route of the Delta 5 Motorcycle Expedition, organised by the Indian Army, arrived in the city on Monday. The expedition is a pan-India journey to commemorate the Rajat Jayanti (silver jubilee) of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War.

The eight riders from the Regiment of Artillery had embarked on their journey from Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu, on June 12. Over 28 days, they will cover more than 4,000 kilometres. Having traversing through Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana, they will head to Manali, Sarchu, and Nyoma. Their destination is the Kargil War Memorial at Dras, where they are expected to arrive on July 10, a press statement said.

The Hyderabad leg of the journey saw the team being flagged in at Maitra Stadium, Bolaram, by Major General Akhilesh Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Bison Division. The event was attended by a large number of ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, and enthusiastic youth, rallying in support of the expedition. The ceremony also included the felicitation of four Kargil Veer Naris and nine Chakra awardees.

The expedition, a tribute to the indomitable spirit and dedication of the Kargil War heroes, symbolises the enduring spirit of the Regiment of Artillery and the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation, the statement added.
