India’s First Nikon Centre of Excellence Opens at IIT Hyderabad
Hyderabad: IIT-H and Nikon India inaugurated the country’s first Nikon Centre of Excellence (CoE) with high-end equipment to to provide researchers, students, and visiting scholars access to advanced imaging technologies.
The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art systems, including an AXR point scanning confocal system with NSPARC super-resolution and TRIF imaging capabilities. It also features a Nikon inverted microscope Ti2-E for fluorescence imaging and a Nikon SMZ 800 for macro imaging, enabling research into biological systems at multiple scales, from single cells to human tissues.
Dr Shourya Dutta Gupta, the coordinator of the centre, stated that the CoE will address critical challenges in cell biology and other disciplines thereby enabling high-resolution imaging across disciplines.
Speaking at the event, Sajjan Kumar, managing director of Nikon India, said, “We are thrilled to introduce state-of-the-art microscopy systems to the broader scientific community in Hyderabad. This CoE, equipped with our latest imaging technologies, will not only advance scientific research but also empower researchers and students to push the boundaries across various scientific disciplines. Our goal is to foster an innovative learning environment that encourages further developments and benefits the community at large.”
Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, concurred with the sentiment, stating, “It gives us great pleasure to collaborate with Nikon India in establishing this CoE. This initiative aligns perfectly with our goal of fostering innovative research and diverse learning opportunities. In various academic and research domains, the Centre will act as a catalyst, inspiring our researchers and students to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
The launch was attended by senior Nikon India representatives, including Aki Wakamiya, Kazutaka Watamabe, Deb Sekhar, and Mahavir Tanwar, who shared their enthusiasm for the partnership. Researchers and faculty from IITH also participated in the inauguration.
