Indira Shobhan Accuses BRS of Neglecting Govt Hospitals

Hyderabad: Despite requests from doctors to stop tarnishing the image of Gandhi Hospital, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao seemed unaffected, said senior Congress leader Indira Shobhan on Monday. She criticised Rao for tweeting false information and, when caught, trying to cover up his mistake through "fact-finding dramas.”

Shobhan was responding to Rama Rao's recent tweet on maternal deaths in Gandhi Hospital last month, and came on a day when a BRS ‘fact-finding committee’ landed at the hospital.

Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha in his response to Rao's tweet had also accused him of destroying the reputation of Gandhi Hospital and driving away patients from government hospitals.

Shobhan accused the BRS of continuing conspiracies after having destroyed government hospitals over the past decade. "We aim to remind Twitter Tillu of the tragedies that occurred during KCR's regime,” and recalled the incident in which four women died during a family planning operation on August 25, 2022.

She said 34 family planning surgeries were conducted in a single day at the Ibrahimpatnam Government Hospital without sufficient doctors or equipment. “With only one doctor and one surgical kit, dozens of surgeries were performed in hours. Due to negligence, infections spread among all the patients, resulting in the death of four women.”

Shobhan accused the previous BRS government of making false promises of providing double-bedroom houses to the families of the women victims, saying that they were later abandoned.

"Even the promise of free education for the children was a lie. Where was KTR's 'fact-finding' when this tragedy occurred? We visited the families of the victims today to understand their current situation, and all they have left is lifelong sorrow caused by the KCR government," she stated.

Shobhan stated that such incidents were not exclusive to Ibrahimpatnam, but had happened repeatedly during BRS rule. "KTR should first conduct a fact-finding mission on how government hospitals were neglected under KCR's rule and inform the public, instead of focusing on Gandhi Hospital," she said.
