HYDERABAD: In a significant move aimed at enhancing the delivery of welfare schemes, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered constitution of Indiramma committees across various levels by the ensuing Dasara. These committees will play a key role in selection of beneficiaries for the Indiramma Housing scheme. They will also oversee the effective implementation of the Congress government’s ‘six guarantees’ and other welfare schemes in order to ensure that they reach the deserving beneficiaries.
During a review meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Chief Minister focussed on the construction of Indiramma houses. He instructed officials to tap central funds for the scheme and make efforts to secure the maximum number of houses for the state under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
He also directed them to address the PMAY arrears due to Telangana from the central government. He stressed the importance of timely data updates and swift communication with the central authorities regarding the housing projects.
In the first phase of the Indiramma Housing scheme’s implementation, financial assistance would be extended for the construction of 3,500 houses in each Assembly segment. The state government will extend Rs 5 lakh in financial support to the eligible beneficiaries, who already own a house plot for constructing their homes. For those who do not possess a house site, a piece of land along with Rs 5 lakh will be provided. Around 4.5 lakh houses would be constructed at a cost of Rs 22,500 crore in the first phase. The ownership of the house will be in the name of the family’s woman.
The Chief Minister directed that the procedures for setting up Indiramma committees at village, ward, mandal, town, constituency and district levels be finalised in the next couple of days. He emphasised that the government was committed to providing homes to those who genuinely deserve them.
Addressing a potential challenge, officials informed the Chief Minister about a looming shortage of engineers if large-scale constructions begin. To mitigate this, Reddy called for recruitment of engineers on an outsourcing basis.
In another major decision, the Chief Minister suggested immediate auction of houses built under the previous Congress government's Rajiv Swagruha scheme, citing the inefficiency of leaving these properties unused for years. He called for swift action to prepare for the auction and optimal utilization of the assets.
Revanth Reddy also raised concerns about delays in handing over double-bedroom houses to the selected beneficiaries. He urged officials to provide basic amenities to 2BHK housing complexes that are lying idle in Hyderabad and ensure that these homes are handed over to the deserving recipients without any further delay.
The review meeting was attended by housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Minister's adviser Vem Narender Reddy, chief secretary A. Santhi Kumari, CM’s principal secretary V. Seshadri, housing department secretary Jyoti Buddha Prakash and Telangana housing board managing director V.P Gautam, among others.
