Inter-State Training for Delhi Prisons Staff Begins at SICA

The training initiative reflects inter-state collaboration in correctional administration. A total of 381 personnel from Delhi Prisons have been nominated for training during 2026 in a phased manner.

Hyderabad: Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated the Basic Induction Training Programme for personnel of Delhi Prisons at SICA, Chanchalguda.

In his address, Shivadhar Reddy emphasised that the role of the Prison Department is crucial and not an easy responsibility. He said prison service is not merely confined to lock-and-key duties, but is a vital function centred on reformation and reintegration of inmates into society.

He urged the trainees to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and professionalism, while treating inmates with dignity and focusing on their transformation. He conveyed his best wishes for a meaningful and successful training journey.

The Phase-I batch, which commenced on Wednesday, consists of 62 trainees, including 61 personnel from Delhi Prisons and one warder from Telangana Prisons Department, said DG Prisons Dr Soumya Mishra.

The batch includes 18 Assistant Superintendents (15 men and 3 women), 43 matrons/women warders, and one male warder from Telangana. One male warder from Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected to join during the course.

The nine-month induction programme has been designed to build professional competence, discipline and a humane outlook among trainees.

Dr Soumya Mishra said the programme includes indoor training on prison administration rules, criminology, victimology, penology, psychology, sociology, social work, criminal laws, constitutional values, human rights, and technology in prison administration. It also includes outdoor training such as parade as per BPR&D standards, along with yoga and meditation.

The trainees will use SICA’s infrastructure, including classrooms, an air-conditioned auditorium, library, hostel facilities, training grounds, gymnasium and dining facilities.
