Irate villagers attack police in Adilabad for preventing from attacking rape accused
Hyderabad: Tension gripped Gudihatnoor village in Adilabad district on Saturday night after relatives of a girl, who was allegedly raped by a youth after kidnapping her, attacked the police personnel for preventing them from bashing up the youth.
Ichoda police station circle inspector Bhimeesh and a few more police personnel suffered head injuries in the incident. The windscreen of a police patrolling vehicle was completely damaged in the incident. Irate relatives also burnt the house of youth for committing the heinous crime.
Trouble broke out when the youth first kidnapped the girl and raped her at a house. On coming to know about the youth’s location, the girl's relatives rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. They then started attacking him for violating the girl.
Upon receiving information, the Ichoda police led by circle inspector Bhimeesh rushed to the spot to pacify the villagers. By the time the police reached there, the youth was in an unconscious state as he suffered injuries.
When the police tried to prevent them, the villagers started attacking, resulting in head injuries to Bhimeesh and other police personnel. Such was the dangerous situation that the police were forced to climb the wall of an adjacent house to protect themselves from attackers and scamper to safety.
Even as a few villagers were attacking the police, another group set fire to the youth’s house. The villagers later shifted the injured police to the hospital for treatment. Following the incident, the district police deployed additional forces to the villagers to bring the situation under control. A police picket was posted in the village. The injured youth was also admitted to the hospital.
Police officials said that efforts were on to collect more details about the incident once the situation is under control.
