Suryapet: IRS officer Sandeep Bhaga worked as a daily wage labourer (without pay) under the MGNREGA at Chilpakuntla in Nuthanakal mandal of Suryapet district for a day. Bhaga, who hails from Huzurnagar in the district, is assistant commissioner of the GST investigation wing of the Bangalore South Central Tax Commissionerate.
As part of his idea, ‘Be them to know them,’ to understand the plight of others, especially underprivileged sections, he visited Chilpakuntla and worked along with NREGA workers from 8 am to 12.30 pm after taking permission from the district rural development officer.
During the break, he consumed food which was brought by the villagers. He also explained to MNREGA workers about the government’s self-employment schemes and urged them to avail of the schemes. He extended `200 to each of 152 MNREGA workers who participated in the work from his purse.
At end of the day, he made everyone dance to Bathukamma songs.
