Medchal: Retired Prof Couple Drugged And Robbed By Nepali Gang In Kowkoor
The victims, Muralidhar Mohan, 68, and his wife Dr. Vijayalakshmi, 58, were tied up and confined at their residence in Kowkoor Golf Enclave by an eight-member gang.

HYDERABAD: Even before the Jubilee Hills murder‑for‑gain case faded from public memory, another shocking robbery has surfaced under Jawaharnagar police station limits in Malkajgiri commissionerate. The incident has exposed a disturbing pattern of gangs infiltrating affluent homes by posing as domestic workers.
The victims, Murali Mohan, 64, a retired professor and financial consultant, and his wife Dr Vijaya Lakshmi, 58, a medical professor, live alone in Gold View gated community, Kapra. Their children are settled abroad. On April 24, a Nepal‑origin couple, identifying themselves as Sabeena and Rajesh, joined as domestic help. Police suspect their Aadhaar documents were fake and have launched a multi‑state manhunt, with teams heading towards the Nepal border.
Investigators said Vijaya Lakshmi had grown uncomfortable with Sabeena’s behaviour and May 12 was expected to be her last day at work. Suspecting loss of access, the accused executed their plan that night. Claiming it was Sabeena’s birthday, they invited three others for a cake‑cutting inside the house. After the celebration, the gang attacked the couple, tied them up, and demanded valuables.
The victims were reportedly sedated despite Vijaya Lakshmi’s pleas, as Murali Mohan had a history of cardiac arrest. They regained consciousness the next afternoon and were freed by neighbours after raising cries from the windows. The gang fled with 60 tolas of gold, 15 kilos of silver, and ₹30,000 cash.
Police said the gated community had glaring security lapses, with only one guard and no CCTV coverage. The accused unplugged cameras and threw the DVR into water.
Six special teams comprising Jawaharnagar police, crime units, IT Cell and SOT have been formed. Leads have taken detectives to Lucknow and towards the Nepal border. Investigators are probing links to a similar 2023 Moinabad robbery. Malkajgiri commissioner inspected the scene. A case of dacoity and conspiracy has been registered.
