Hyderabad:CPM state general secretary John Wesley said the party will stand by the people in demanding the fulfillment of promises made by the ruling party. He emphasised that the CPM will lead movements against worker exploitation, social oppression and liberalisation policies.
Speaking to the media after taking charge at the recently concluded fourth state party conference, Wesley said, “We will expose the communal agenda of the BJP and halt its growth. Apart from the free bus scheme, no other promises are being implemented, and even that is suffering due to a shortage of buses. Education has become a commodity, making it unaffordable for the common man. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is boasting about foreign investments after returning from Davos, just as K.T. Rama Rao did before him. First, the minimum wage should be fixed at `26,000.”
He also demanded that the wages of NREGA workers be increased to `400 per day and the number of workdays extended to 150. Reminding that the scheme was once proposed for urban areas, he expressed concern over the diversion of SC/ST sub-plan funds and the failure to revise mess charges. On the BRS, Wesley said the party must clarify its stance on the BJP, adding that the Congress, BJP and BRS share the same policy outlook.
Former state general secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, who stepped down at the conference, said the party would continue to grow through class struggles.
