New Delhi: Special Judge Kaveri Baweja on Friday extended till July 18 the judicial custody of BRS leader K. Kavitha in a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam. The CBI had arrested Kavitha, daughter of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, in April from Tihar Jail, where she was lodged after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Inquiry Ordered into Remand Prisoner’s Custody Death
Hyderabad: Special executive magistrate K Jyothi, will conduct an inquiry into the death of a remand prisoner Mudavath Raju, 36, while in custody of the Central Prison. Raju died while undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hospital. The inquiry was ordered by Hyderabad collector Anudeep Durishetty.
Police Arrest Drug Peddler and Doctors in Ganja Bust
Hyderabad: The Sultan Bazaar police and the Telangana Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB), arrested a drug peddler, Suresh Singh, with 80 grams of ganja, along with two junior doctors from the Osmania Medical College who had consumed the narcotic, in Koti. The two doctors tested positive for ganja. Singh had been selling ganja since 2016, police said. The police have identified four medical students who were involved in drug use and are working to identify others.
Drunk Driver with MLA Sticker Attacks Youth in Rangareddy
Hyderabad: A drunk man, who was driving a vehicle with an MLA sticker, attacked one Jashwant Reddy, son of Pedda Narasimha Reddy, director of a cooperative society, in broad daylight in Rangareddy district, police said. According to locals, the incident took place on Thursday afternoon. Despite passersby trying to intervene, the accused attacked the youth. The incident caused a massive traffic jam on the road. The victim filed a complaint at the Meerpet police station.
Nims Hospital Official Loses Rs 50,000 to Cyberfraudster
Hyderabad: A Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciencs (Nims) Hospital official reportedly lost Rs 50,000 to a cyberfraudster, who posed as the hospital's director, Dr N. Bheerappa Nagari, and sought money.
According to reports, the official was responding to a WhatsApp message from an account that displayed Dr Nagari’s photograph as the display picture. Believing the message to be genuine, the official allegedly transferred Rs 50,000 as requested.
The fraudster requested an additional Rs 1 lakh, which is when the official realised that something was amiss.
