Jupally Plans World-Class Buddhist Hub At Nagarjunasagar

The minister was speaking at Buddha Purnima celebrations held at Buddhavanam, where special rituals were performed by Buddhist monks: Reports

NALGONDA: Tourism and culture minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Friday said Buddhavanam at Nagarjunasagar would be developed into a world-class Buddhist tourism hub.

The minister was speaking at Buddha Purnima celebrations held at Buddhavanam, where special rituals were performed by Buddhist monks. He offered prayers at the Buddha statue in Buddha Charita Vanam and participated in meditation at the Maha Stupa premises.

Referring to the teachings of Gautama Buddha, he said they remain relevant in promoting peace and non-violence. He said Buddhist philosophy emphasises establishing harmony and reducing conflict.

He said Telangana has significant Buddhist heritage with several historical sites, and added that infrastructure at Buddhavanam would be improved to promote tourism. He also said steps would be taken to create awareness among future generations about Buddhist teachings.

Kunduru Jayaveer Reddy, Patel Ramesh Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad, TGTDC managing director Gautami, director of tourism Laxman Ranjit Naik and Buddhavanam special Officer Mallepalli Laxmaiah attended the programme.
