K. Keshava Rao appointed as public affairs adviser to government
Hyderabad: Former Rajya Sabha member K. Keshava Rao, who recently joined the Congress, was appointed public affairs adviser to the government with the status of a Cabinet minister. Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari issued orders to this effect on Saturday. The terms and conditions of his appointment were to be issued separately. Keshava Rao was PCC former president in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He joined the BRS (then TRS) in 2013 and was elected to the Rajya Sabha for two terms in 2014 and 2020. His six-year tenure as Rajya Sabha member was supposed to end in April 2026 but quit the seat abruptly to join the Congress.
OU begins state-level CPGET-2024-25
Hyderabad: Osmania University kicked off the state-level Common Post Graduate Entrance Tests (TG-CPGET) for 2024-25 on Saturday. These entrance exams, which will cover 45 different subjects, will continue until July 16, with three sessions scheduled each day. On the opening day, the exams were conducted for four subjects. Out of the 7,416 candidates registered for these subjects, 6,465 appeared for the exams, translating to an attendance percentage of 87.17.
Third year students demand sixth semester exam results
Hyderabad: Several third-year students, led by AISF OU Council, on Saturday submitted a memorandum to university registrar Prof. P. Lakshminarayana, pressing for the immediate release of the sixth semester exam results. The memorandum also sought provisional certificates and consolidated memos. The memorandum said that the students had achieved ranks in the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) and were in urgent need of their results to proceed with their education plans. Nelli S., one of the students, told Deccan Chronicle: "We are already late by almost a month. Many students have secured admission in their desired programmes. We do not want to lose out on our options later." Prof. Lakshminarayana assured the delegation that the university would work on releasing the results and certificates at the earliest. "We understand the urgency and will ensure no there is no more delay in their admissions elsewhere," he said.
SCB contract workers, AITUC thank Cantonment CM for merger of civilian area into GHMC
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) Contract Workers Union and the All India Trade Union Congress (Aituc) on Saturday met Cantonment MLA Sriganesh Narayan to thank him and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for their effort to merge the SCB's civilian area into the GHMC. In a detailed letter, the union highlighted about the issues besetting the cantonment, such as labour problems, inadequate infrastructure, irregular attendance and salaries, lack of basic facilities, and excessive workload. The union pointed to the absence of biometric systems within the cantonment. They advocated for the SCB civilian area to be integrated as a single circle under GHMC to facilitate uniform development and the resolution of contract labour issues. MLA Sriganesh said that the issues would be addressed and resolved. He assured the union that all welfare schemes would be provided to. "Despite opposition from those benefiting from corruption, we will achieve this merger under the leadership of CM Revanth Reddy. This will not only benefit the people but also the contract employees, who will receive benefits comparable to those in GHMC," he said.
Tummala seeks primacy to elected representatives' recommendation letters for Tirumala darshan
Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has asked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to raise the issue of giving primacy to recommendation letters issued by public representatives from Telangana for darshan at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala temple. In a letter, Nageswara Rao asked Revanth Reddy take proactive steps towards this end at his meeting with AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The letter said, “Crores of people revere the Tirumala deity and seek facilitation of darshan and accommodation. The CM should raise the issue in the meeting and see that officials of the TTD give due importance to letters given to them,” he wrote.
