Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women Golden Jubilee celebrations held on Thursday at the college premises, saw a gathering of around 3,000 students
Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma commended the role played by the Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women in women's education and empowerment on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee celebrations. The event, held on Thursday at the college premises, saw a gathering of around 3,000 students.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor spoke about Smt. Kasturba Gandhi’s contributions to society and urged students to empower themselves and empower others around them. He also felicitated meritorious students. Along with principal Dr R. Rajshree, he unveiled a portrait of Smt. Kasturba Gandhi.
The college showcased its NCC contingent, which represented Telangana in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. The students also participated in the folk dance performance titled Jayati Jai Mama Bharatam, which set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of folk dancers.
Principal Dr Rajshree said, "On this momentous occasion, we celebrate the dedication and perseverance of our students, faculty and staff. As we honour their achievements, we also remember the values of Smt. Kasturba Gandhi - courage, compassion and resilience. We remain committed to striving for excellence, empowering each other, and creating positive change in society."
The celebrations featured a variety of cultural events, including classical and folk dances, solo and group singing, and a yoga performance demonstrating Surya Namaskar and other complex asanas. A highlight of the event was the Miss Kasturba contest.
Faculty member G. Sunanda noted, "Our students and staff dedicated several days to making this event a success, and the excitement was palpable." Anjali Malia from the department of commerce added, "Students from this institution excel in various fields and serve as exemplary contributors to society."
