Keep a tight check on sale of Chinese manja, Telangana HC tells DGP
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court directed the DGP and the state government to strictly enforce laws pertaining to manufacture, sale, store, purchase and use of synthetic manja/nylon thread and such synthetic threads that are used to fly kites, which all have been banned.
Given the recent instances of injuries caused by the use of Chinese manja, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the police and principal secretaries of home and environment departments to maintain strict vigil and take stringent action against all those selling synthetic manja.
The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Sanjay Narayan Punjari, a resident of Kacheguda ,who complained that synthetic manja was available abundantly in the market but the police were not taking any action.
He brought to the notice of the court that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) principal bench at New Delhi had in 2017 directed all the state governments to strictly prohibit the manufacture and use of synthetic manja or nylon thread coated with abrasive metals like glass powder. But, the authorities are not taking any steps to curb the deadly menace, the petitioner complained in the house motion petition before the High Court.
The court directed the authorities to take action and also directed to post the matter to January 31 in order to examine how the authorities had worked in implementing the orders.
