Key Witnesses May Face Questions at Klis Probe From Next Week

Former CM KCR, and ex-ministers Harish Rao and Etala Rajendar may face cross-examination as probe continues

Hyderabad: The Justice P.C. Ghose-led commission of inquiry into issues surrounding the Kaleshwaram barrages is all set to resume work from next week amidst expectations that there could be another round of cross-examinations, but this time around, those who may be called could include former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao, and former finance minister Etala Rajendar who is now a BJP MP.

The term of the commission had ended on February 28 and the government extended its term for another two months, till April 30. Justice Ghose is expected to submit his report to the government before that date.

This report from the commission would make it the second among two important reports to land on the government’s desk in the first quarter of this year, the first being the final report from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the causes and reasons behind the partial breaking of a block of Medigadda barrage resulting in it sinking into the Godavari river bed.

The NDSA, expected to submit its report by the end of February, also took stock of the conditions at Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, which too suffered damages resulting in serious leaks from under their foundations.

The state government has been waiting for the official findings of the NDSA and its recommendations on the way forward with what can be done, or what should be done about the barrages.
