Kishan Reddy Calls for Utilization of Unused Flood Relief Funds

Hyderabad: Union minister urged the state government to make use of the Rs.1,345 crore of Central funds in the Auditor General’s accounts for extending flood and rain relief and rehabilitation works. He said he would take up the issue of Rs.208 crore which was released but was pending with the Centre due to the failure of the previous BRS government to submit utilisation certificates.

Addressing a press conference, Kishan Reddy also asked the government to make use of Central funds available with the State Disaster Response Fund.

Kishan Reddy said that on the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, the repair works of all national highways and the railway tracks. Tracks were almost restored in Warangal and Mahbubabad districts.

On the government’s demand of declaring a national calamity, Kishan Reddy said the state would get all the help as per the norms. The Centre would provide Rs.3 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased, Rs.2.5 lakh to seriously injured persons, Rs.16,000 per week to those hospitalised for more than one week, Rs.5,400 for people admitted for shorter periods.

The Centre would pay Rs.2,500 for any damage to each house, Rs.2,500 for loss of utensils, Rs.37,500 for loss of cattle, Rs.4,000 per loss of one sheep or goat, up to 30 animals, Rs.32,000 for the death of buffalo.

The Centre would also providing Rs.18,000 per hectare up to 2.5 hectares to remove silt from the agricultural fields and provide additional job guarantee days under MNREGA, he said.

Separately, BJP Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajendar demanded that the state government extend help to flood-affected persons and provide Rs.50 lakh compensation to the kith and kin of those who died. He also sought increased assistance for farmers.
