Kishan Reddy thanks Modi for announcing Zaheerabad as Industrial Smart City
Hyderabad: Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing Zaheerabad as Industrial Smart City.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Modi has approved the setting up of 12 new Industrial Smart Cities. Approval was done under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs. 28,602 crore.
The industrial smart city in Zaheerabad to be developed for a project cost of Rs.2,361 crore as a part of the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC). Target sectors for the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City have been identified as automobile, electrical equipment, food processing, machinery and equipment, metals and non-metallic based industries, transport equipment.
The project is estimated to generate about 1,74,000 employment opportunities and attract investments worth Rs 10,000 crore. Despite persistent global challenges, India's overall exports (merchandise plus services) stood at USD 776.68 Billion in FY 2023-24. To meet an ambitious target of $2 trillion in exports by 2030 and meet the Government’s vision of an Atmanirbhar and globally competitive India, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the set-up of 12 new Industrial Smart Cities.
These industrial cities are being developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs. 28,602 crore. These 12 industrial smart cities span across 10 States and are strategically planned along half a dozen major corridors. Along with Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Zaheerabad in Telangana will also be developed.
The Zaheerabad Industrial Node under Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor is spread across 17 villages of Nyalkal and JharasangamMandals in Sangareddy district. The overall project area (Phase 1 and 2) measures approximately 12,500 acres out of which Phase-I activation area of 3,245 acres is proposed under the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) framework for a project cost of Rs.2,361 crore.
The site is in close proximity to the 4-lane NH-65 (Pune to Machilipatnam) and is located at a distance of approximately 9 km North of Zaheerabad and about 80 km northwest of Hyderabad. The Industrial Smart City at Zaheerabad is also at a distance of approximately 65 km to the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR), approximately 48 km west of Proposed Regional Ring Road and approximately10 km northwest of Bidar Town, Karnataka.
Apart from NH-65, the multi-modal connectivity roads to the Zaheerabad Smart Industrial City include the 2-lane SH-14 (Zaheerabad - Bidar) which is about 2 km from the site and the 2-lane SH-16 (Nizampet - Bidar) that abuts the site. Additionally, the Metalkunta Railway Station is at 12 km from the site and Zaheerabad Railway Station is about 19 km from the site.
The international airport at Shamshabad is about 125 km while the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) sea port near Mumbai is at a distance of 600 km and Krishnapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh is at a distance of 620 km. The tap off point for gas from where the main pipeline carrying petroleum products can be diverted is at a distance of 30 km from the site at Zaheerabad and Bidar. The Zaheerabad Industrial Area (ZIA) in Sangareddy district of Telangana has been identified as a priority node under the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC).
